Is Columbia any sort of road map for Mexico? It appears to be on a rebound. What does it take?

I have been wondering that myself. The difference may lie in the will of the ruling elite in Mexico and to what extent the status quo benefits them.

Always a good read with mucho info, Carmen!

Thanks, Jeanine. I like to think we write 2 sides of the same coin!

Verdad! When your daughter never got on the bus that day in CDMX Carmen, omg. Mexico (and foreign climes) are ripe for tales of ‘adventure,’ no? You’ve mined some pretty swell ones.

The stories of the Disappeared are heartbreaking. Mexico. Chile. Argentina. Thanks for this post and your books—keep the memories alive.

Thank you! Did you see The Secret Agent movie about the disappeared in Argentina that was nominated for an Oscar? Very powerful.

It has been on my list! Have you seen the documentary The Stolen, which explores the lives of the children taken from the disappeared in Argentina?

No, but now I have to! Thanks for the tip.

Years ago, I had a student who went to visit his grandparents in Mexico City for Christmas. It was his first time there. He didn't come back. His body was found months later in a mass grave just outside of Mexico City. This was not a kid to get involved with drugs. I think it was a wrong place/wrong time situation and he got caught up in whatever went down. His parents were devastated and blamed themselves for going back to visit. I had not heard about the 43 missing, but I will buy the book today. Thanks for enlightening me!
