5th largest employer. Unreal. I've never been to Acapulco, or Mexico for that matter, but like Jennifer was saying, I remember it being a very popular tourist spot back in the day.

It still is a major tourist destination, although the US State Dept has it listed as a "Do Not Travel" spot because of the violent crime. Which is so, so sad.

Thanks for explaining this recruiting process, Carmen. Living in Mexico, I'm aware that cartels are large and very profitable organizations, but I didn't realize how the recruiting process works.

Mikel, it’s another social network. Thanks for reading and stay safe!

You certainly have picked rich world of crime in which to set your novels. Two hundred bucks for a hit? Wow, life is cheap there.

Yes, the law of supply and demand at work, too.

Hard to conceive of all this violence in the Acapulco I knew, admittedly not very well, back in 1991. Sunny, colorful, crowded, and full of lovely beaches, it seemed to be a small-town city on the edge of paradise.

I love your description of Acapulco. There’s a heartbreaking divide between what the city could be and what is happening IRL. Great for a writer, not so good for residents.

This is so frightening and sad. And always eye opening. See you next week!
